Weymouth's Victorian Showtime will return in December
IT’S SHOWTIME- Weymouth’s Victorian shopping extravaganza will return this year.
Organisers have set the stage for the Victorian Showtime to be held on Friday, December 6 from 3pm until 9pm in the town centre.
It will include an ice rink, a herd of reindeers, a Father Christmas grotto, outdoor stalls and shops- all with a Victorian theme.
The event will be organised by Roger Dalton Associates in conjunction with the Weymouth BID team. Organisers have promised to create an atmosphere ‘just how Christmas used to be’.
Visitors and residents can make the most of free parking from 3pm in the council run town centre car parks and many shops will be opening until late.
Roger Dalton Associates were the successful business who won the Weymouth BID events tender for the next three years and Shownight will be their first event.
Organiser Roger Dalton said: “We are encouraging businesses to join in the fun by setting up stalls outside their premises or to have staff dressed in Victorian costume.
“Shops can also run events inside their own businesses with special offers for customers.”
He added: “We are very proud to have been awarded the events tender for the Weymouth BID.”
The company will be investing more that £10,000 in festive attractions, events and music backed by a full marketing campaign of leaflets, posters, banners, social media and press support.
A torchlight parade will take place in the town at 6.30pm and organisers hope schools, groups, individuals and families will join in the fun as well as Christmas shoppers from Dorset and day trippers.
The event will also see Mayor Ray Banham arrive with a parade of vintage cars and pantomime characters on the land train before the countdown to switch on Christmas lights in the town centre.
Nigel Reed, Weymouth BID manager, added: “The board of Directors are delighted to be working with Roger Dalton Associates as our events company for the next three years.
“Roger Dalton and his team have demonstrated their experience and skill in delivering high quality events in Weymouth over a number of years including the Dorset Seafood Festival and events held at Brewers Quay.
“I am sure that the Victorian Shownight will be one to be remembered and we encourage all businesses to get involved.”
