Landlady's disgust after home burgled
6:00am Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
A PORTLAND landlady said she is ‘furious and disgusted’ after burglars broke into her house while she was at home.
They broke in through the upstairs bathroom of The Royal Exchange pub, in Weston on Friday evening.
Jess Short, 38, was downstairs in the pub watching a band at around 11.45pm, while her partner John Garrard was asleep upstairs.
He heard a noise and called out to see if Jess had come upstairs.
The pair think this startled the intruders who then quickly made their escape back through the bathroom window.
John called Jess on her phone and she came upstairs and found the bathroom window open and footprints in the bath.
They went downstairs to look for the intruders but couldn’t see anyone. It was when they returned upstairs that Jess found her handbag was missing.
It is a black leather Bailey and Quinn handbag with a matching purse inside and two Animal purses. The burglars also took a three-litre whisky jar three-quarters full with change.
She described the burglary as ‘absolutely disgusting’.
She urged people to be vigilant and let the police know if anyone had seen or heard anything.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Councillor Ian Munro-Price’s, whose ward covers Weston, said that crime levels were relatively low on Portland.
But he said: “My sympathies go to the victims and I hope the perpetrators will be caught.”
He added: “I hope anyone that knows anything about this will come forward.”
Dorset Police confirmed they were investigating the burglary and that officers attended the scene just before 12am on Friday night. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Dorset Police on 101.
