Building new skills with Melbury Day Services
A DAY centre for adults with learning disabilities was given a boost by a Dorchester-based company.
Magna Housing tradesmen travelled to Evershot to help out at Melbury Day Services, which helps adults with learning disabilities learn about the countryside and develop new skills.
They battled wind and rain to build a bridge, erect a gate and create a polytunnel.
The bridge will provide access to a woodland area to provide extra activities for adults with learning disabilities.
Magna surveyor Danny Roach said: “We had a great day, despite the rain. All the tradesmen really enjoyed working on a different kind of project for the day.
“We were overwhelmed with the gratitude that Peter showed us and it was a pleasure to give something back to a community organisation.”
Peter Richards from Melbury Day Services said they were very grateful to Magna for their help.
He said: “This will make a huge difference to the adults and services we provide.
“It will be hugely beneficial as the bridge access to the woodland will allow us to run a multitude of different activities that will enrich the work experience for the adults who use our service.”
He added: “We are extremely grateful to the Magna tradesmen, to have their skills for the day has made a big difference. They’ve worked so quickly and the adults who visit will be so thankful.”
