Coastguard helicopter scrambled to help fallen climber
COASTGUARDS were called after a woman fell while rock climbing on Portland.
Coastguard Rescue Officers and the Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 106 were sent to the area to find and recover the woman at 11am yesterday.
The woman, who was climbing at The Cuttings, was able to walk to safety after the fall and made her own way to hospital for medical checks.
Elsewhere, Portland Coastguard was called at 11.09am yesterday after a woman fell from cliffs on Seaton esplanade.
Beer Coastguard Rescue Officers, Devon Air ambulance, Devon Police and Southwestern Ambulance attended and the woman was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
Yesterday lunchtime Exmouth Coastguard Officers were sent to a report of a discarded live flare on Budleigh Salterton beach at the mouth of the river Otter.
They checked the flare and found it to be live but stable and sent it away for inspection.
