Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal launched
THE 14th annual Christmas Toy Appeal run by the Dorset Echo has officially been launched today.
Almost £4,000 was raised last year and as a result hundreds of new toys were donated to underprivileged children across Dorset.
We hope that this year will be the biggest ever and see a record amount donated to help local needy youngsters.
Echo promotions manager Debbie Hellaby said: “We are looking for toys for all ages so that everyone can benefit from the appeal.
“It is a great opportunity for the community to make a difference to someone’s day, and every year the Dorset Echo is always impressed by the generosity of stores, businesses and our readers who get involved.”
Toys can be donated to appeal bins in shops and businesses across the area.
“Shoppers can drop something in when they are out and about doing their Christmas shopping and businesses can get involved by donating £100 to the appeal.
We are looking for 30 businesses to each donate £100 to be used to buy gifts and vouchers for youngsters.
The campaign has been kick-started this year by The Watercress Company, which is the first business to donate £100.
The Waddock Cross firm has supported the appeal for more than 10 years.
Managing director Tom Amery said: “It’s brilliant for the Watercress Company to get the donation train running this year and for us to kick-start the appeal.
“The appeal is definitely very relevant to our company as all our staff recognise the importance of helping less fortunate children have a special Christmas by giving them toys they will really enjoy.”

How firms can help
We are looking for 30 businesses to donate £100 each for our appeal.
This has been amazingly successful in previous years and has been the main way that the toy appeal has been able to provide so many toys and gifts to needy children.
Each donation is gratefully received and all those donating £100 will be featured in the Echo. To donate £100 call Debbie Hellaby on 01305 830815 or email email@example.com
