PLANS for an improved cycleway in Weymouth town centre are going on public display.

Dorset County Council will be discussing options for an improved route from Weymouth Ferry Port to Westham Bridge at the Mulberry Gallery at Weymouth Library from 1pm to 7pm on Thursday, November 14.

The planned improvements are part of a Cycle West project that aims to promote Dorset as a cycle tourism destination.

A provisional route taking cyclists from the ferry terminal to Westham Bridge has been in place since the summer but the council is now looking at options for a permanent route.

Local member for Weymouth town Mike Byatt said: “This route is an important link between the town centre and the wider local and national cycle network hub at Westham Bridge.” “It will open our area to a new tourism market as well as benefiting local residents.

“I'd encourage people to come along to the exhibition and take a look at the plans.”

The three options that are under consideration are formalising the current temporary route, creating a contraflow cycleway on Westham Road or reversing the one way system on the upper end of Gloucester Street to route cyclists from the Esplanade to Commercial Road.

Plans detailing each option will be on show at the event at Weymouth Library and Dorset Highways staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
