Creative results of art course
TALENTED artists drew in the crowds at an exhibition in Weymouth’s Community Fire Station.
Hundreds of people headed to the Radipole Lane station to enjoy East Borough Housing Trust Arts and Craft Group’s open day and exhibition.
The group was set up two years ago and meets at the Community Fire Station every Tuesday and Thursday.
The open day and exhibition gave members the chance to show their work to family, friends and the public.
The work on show included paintings, drawings, needlework, models, sculptures and handmade Christmas decorations.
East Boro’s Art and Craft Group supervisor Mel Symes described the event as a ‘phenomenal success’.
She added: “The group is made up of members with varying levels of learning disability and our work and activities are geared to their individual skills and abilities.
“They have undertaken a range of projects, both individually and collectively, and this was an opportunity for them to show their creations to a wider audience.
“The work on display was truly amazing and that was something reiterated by all our visitors.
“East Boro prides itself on the services it provides to its customers and the Arts and Crafts Group is a perfect example of this.
“Two years ago some of our tenants asked if they could do art as an activity and the whole thing has evolved from there.”
The day also included a prize tombola, which raised more than £100 for local animal charity Paws.
Mel said: “A huge thank you to all our members and volunteers for their hard work.
“Also thanks to our sponsors who provided prizes and the staff at the Community Fire Station for all their support.”
