KIND-HEARTED Echo readers have dug deep and helped raise more than £5,000 for the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.
Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines on November 8 and was one of the most intense tropical storms ever to make landfall anywhere in the world.
It brought torrential rain, winds of over 195mph and a storm surge of up to 30 feet that devastated coastal areas.
We joined forces with the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which encompasses all of the UK major aid agencies, as it launched an urgent appeal for help.
The committee provides emergency shelter, clean water and food to those devastated by the typhoon.
So far, Disasters Emergency Committee member agencies have now reached more than 700,000 people across the affected islands of the Philippines.
Our readers have again shown that they can be counted on when we ask them to help those in desperate need.
Over the years our readers have raised tens of thousands of pounds to aid those hit by disasters around the globe, from the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004 to the Haiti earthquake of 2010.
