UPDATE: Road re-opened after four-car smash on A354

Dorset Echo: Delays after four-car crash Delays after four-car crash

DRIVERS are facing delays after an accident near the football ground roundabout in Dorchester.

The southbound route to Weymouth from the county town was closed while police and ambulance are on scene.

Road closures have now been lifted but traffic is still moving slowly.

The accident is believed to involve four cars and the A354 Weymouth Road southbound was blocked around the A35.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said paramedics were on scene and one person was treated for possible whiplash.

The southbound lane was closed from the football stadium on the A354 towards Weymouth.

The northbound lane from Weymouth to Dorchester remained open throughout the incident.

Has anyone an idea of just how many accidents there have been in this immediate vicinity 1) since the new layout 2) this year? From a distance it almost seems like 1 a week.
Perhaps we could start a league table by comparing incidents at this junction with that other well known planning disaster at Canford Bottom!

What's the excuse this time? It's hardly particularly adverse conditions.

Get rid of the roundabout and install Traffic lights, quite a few accidents are happening on or close to roundabouts and none at traffic lights !

this was nothing more than drivers being to close to each other, quite comical to see, 1st car brakes and hey ho, not 1, 2, 3,4 but 5 cars all rear ended, the only one not at fault will be the 1st car. nothing to do with the layout, as in most roads, just driver stupidity.

Nothing wrong with the road, just the drivers! Clear case of drivers driving too close to the vehicle in front - simples!

I moved to Weymouth 9 months ago and I have noticed that most drivers tend to drive far too close to the vehicle in front and also that they enter roundabouts far too fast. They're all an accident looking for somewhere to happen.

Roundabouts will soon have to be traffic-calmed if the "I know my rights" brigade continue to think they have priority over vehicles already on the roundabout.
