BEAMINSTER School pupils will have a tough critic when Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall judges their annual mince pie baking contest on Friday.

He’s valiantly agreed to sample every entry after being invited to the Christmas Fair event by the Beaminster School Association.

The association wants all students, staff and families to enter to contest, in which the TV chef will decide the best in show, the best from a sixth former, the best upper and lower school pies, the best from a parent or teacher and the one with the best presentation.

Hugh will be presenting each prize winner with a River Cottage gift and the association will give £5 worth of raffle tickets to the Best in Show and Best Presentation winner with a chance to win the star prize of an Apple iPad.

Entrants have to bring a tray of 12 mince pies into school on Friday and the mince pies can be made to any recipe or design.

All pies will then be sold in aid of the association at the Christmas Fair in the public hall from 6pm.
