RESIDENTS bowled over by special guests at this year’s Weymouth Carnival procession are invited to come and have a go at making their own costumes tomorrow.

Elaine Freedman was in charge of the 2013 procession and managed to secure Rampage Carnival Band, an award-winning troupe whose colourful costumes and exuberant performance style was a highlight of the day.

Elaine, who worked for the Royal Ballet making costumes and later with bands at the Notting Hill Carnival and in the West Indies, now teaches costume making at Weymouth College.

She is running a taster costume making workshop tomorrow ahead of new part-time courses starting next year which will give people the skills to make their own entries for the carnival procession.

Costing £2, the workshop will be held from 11am to noon at the college town campus 106 St Mary Street, Weymouth. A workshop for children will be held at the venue from 1pm-2pm.
