A FORMER postman turned photographer is now de-livering worldwide – after his pictures of a West Dorset landmark were turned into a calendar.

Symondsbury-based snapper Doug Chalk took a picture of the Four-Tree Hill once a day for the past year and his photographs have now been collated into a special edition calendar for 2014.

They went on sale last week and since then photo-lovers from across the world have been eagerly snapping them up.

Orders have been placed from far-flung destinations such as Brazil, Australia, USA and Hong Kong, plus multiple countries in Europe.

Mr Chalk, who has been an amateur photographer for 30 years, has had some of his previous pictures bought by investment banker Jacob Rothschild and British film producer Lord Puttnam.

Mr Chalk said: “The demand from abroad has been astonishing.

“Clearly, I love Colmer’s Hill.

“In fact when I first moved here 16 years ago I removed 23 weed trees from the garden just so that I could have a clear view of it.”

Mr Chalk is popular throughout west Dorset, having worked as a postman in Bridport until his recent retirement.

He is also a former Lyme Regis boatman and was the official photographer for the Guitars on the Beach, the Lyme Lympics and for the visit of HMS Sutherland to Lyme Regis.

During the past year, he has uploaded his shots of the hill on to Facebook on a daily basis, which has provoked much friendly joking from his friends.

Mr Chalk added: “Since the beginning of the year I’ve posted on Facebook a picture a day of the hill.

“I have had a lot of compliments but there has been a few pals who have said: ‘give it a rest, mate, change the shot.’ “But I never tire of photographing the hill as although the hill is the same, the view is always different because of the changing sky. I have a passion for it now – you’re never over the hill in this game.”

The Colmer’s Hill calendar is now available from Ocean in Lyme Regis, the post office in Bridport, or by contacting iamsam@myseaside.co.uk
