‘SO far –- so good’ – that’s the message from Max Price’s family after his brave father donated a kidney to the five-year-old.

It was little Max’s second kidney transplant after his first donor organ failed and had to be removed in January last year.

The Weymouth youngster, who was born with chronic renal failure and his selfless dad Shaun went into theatre in October.

Mum Michelle told the Echo that both operations had gone well with the transplant looking like a ‘success’.

Although Max is currently recovering from a sickness bug, his mum said he was on track to make a full recovery.

She said: “It is so far, so good with Max. He is happier, stronger and is eating properly for the first time in ages.

“He is doing really well and the kidney is working and showing no sign of rejection.

“It just seems that he was meant to have his dad’s kidney – he hasn’t needed any dialysis at all. We have all got our fingers crossed because it is still early days.”

Max’s family paid special thanks to kind-hearted well-wishers who have provided both emotional and financial support in their time of need.

Michelle said: “We want to pay a special thank you to everyone who has helped us – especially to the Dorset Kidney Fund for their ongoing support and for the donation they gave us.”

Brave dad Shaun, who is said to be recovering well, underwent surgery at Guy’s Hospital in London while little Max was being treated at Evelina Children’s Hospital nearby.

Michelle added: “The fact that Max is doing so well is inspiring us all.”

Doctors told Max’s family that there was a high chance of success and that after recovery Max would be able to lead a normal life.

  • THE strain on Max Price’s family has been made easier over the years thanks to Dorset Echo readers, the Weymouth community and the Dorset Kidney Fund.

Diana Crowder, of the fund, said: “The news about how Max is getting on is absolutely marvellous.

“I had a kidney transplant three years ago so I can imagine what the family are going through – and he is only five.”

The Dorset Kidney Fund is looking to raise more funds to help people in the county.
