A WEYMOUTH woman found dead in her flat took her own life, a coroner has ruled.

PC Daniel Kitton told an inquest at County Hall in Dorchester that he attended a property in Commercial Road, Weymouth on September 2 after concerns were raised about the occupant Melba Vincent.

The inquest was told that Mrs Vincent, a diabetic, had been unwell recently and had been to Dorset County Hospital the weekend before her death and received a visit from a doctor earlier that day.

PC Kitton said he entered the property and found Mrs Vincent to be deceased. He said he also found two bottles of morphine that were mostly empty as well as a note that read ‘I have had enough’.

Pathologist Dr Mark Deverell said that 83-year-old Mrs Vincent had died from pulmonary oedema and bronchial pneumonia but raised levels of opiates and ischemic heart disease were contributing factors.

Coroner for Dorset Sheriff Payne said that, in light of the note left by Mrs Vincent, he would be recording that the cause of death was suicide.

He said: “She clearly intended to take her own life.”
