POLICE sealed off a house last night after a body was discovered following a fire in a garage.

A number of officers were at the scene in Lonnen Road in Wimborne along with fire crews, paramedics and specialist support vehicles.

Police were called at 8.25pm last night.

The death of the man, who is believed to be in his 50s, is not believed to be suspicious.

His next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police and Dorset Fire and Rescue attended an incident in Lonnen Road, Wimborne during the evening of December 10 after a fire occurred in the garage of a private house.

"Tragically a male was found deceased at the scene.

"Police are preparing a file for the Dorset coroner."

Local resident, David Torring, said: “There was a huge amount of activity. They closed off the road.

“Officers would only say it was an incident, not an accident.”

He added: “Police were asking us if we knew who lived there.”

One neighbour said he thought there had been a fire around 9.30pm after he heard "crackling and banging" of fire.

It is a large detached house.
