CHILDREN across Dorset are one step closer to having a happy Christmas thanks to a £100 Toy Appeal donation from one Weymouth takeaway business.

Indi’s, an Indian takeaway store on Dorchester Road, has generously given £100 towards the campaign which will help provide toys for underprivileged children in Dorset this Christmas.

This year marks the second year the takeaway business has donated to the Toy Appeal, as the other Indi’s store based in Portland has previously made a donation.

Now manager of the Dorchester Road store, Abul Miah, is urging other businesses that can to follow suit and back the appeal.

He said: “After three years of business here at Indi’s we wanted to do something that helped to give something back to the community, and the Toy Appeal is a fantastic cause for Christmas.

“Christmas time is mainly for children so anything we can do as a business to help to support the local area and local children we are delighted to do.

“The appeal is a really great cause and is all about giving something back at Christmas time, so any other businesses that can donate, please back the appeal and help children less fortunate this Christmas.”

Almost £4,000 was raised last year and thousands of new toys were donated to underprivileged children across Dorset to open on Christmas day.

Toys can be donated to appeal bins in shops and businesses across the area.

Businesses can help out by donating £100 to top up the funds raised so even more toys can be purchased.

Last year sacks of presents filled the Weymouth office before social workers and carers took them to deliver to underprivileged youngsters.

All the gifts collected will go to children who may have suffered neglect, abuse or be living in refugees with their mothers.

Many are in the care of families who simply cannot afford to buy them something special for Christmas.

The Echo offices in Weymouth and Dorchester are also accepting donations.

n We are looking for 30 businesses to donate £100 each for our appeal.

Each donation is gratefully received and all those donating £100 will be featured in the Echo.
