ELDERLY residents from the Weymouth Town Charities received a helping hand this festive season with a free Christmas meal.

A total of 28 residents from the Weymouth Town Charities residencies were provided with a three course meal provided by the George Bar and Grill on Weymouth Quay.

The George is also owned by the Weymouth Town Charities so joint managers Alison and Gary Record wanted to do what they could to help the elderly this year.

The Weymouth Town Charities run an educational trust for young people and low cost accommodation for the elderly throughout Weymouth and Portland.

The trust is split into two groups of charities – the Sir Samuel Mico’s Charities and the Henry Edwards’ Charities.

Andrew Prowse, trustee of the Weymouth Town Charities, said: “We have 32 residents in total at the Weymouth Town Charities residencies; Edwards Avenue, James Street and Edwardsville and Rodwell Avenue.

“Gary and Alison decided to do the Christmas meal after taking over the establishment last year, and were really keen about the idea.

“I want to thank them for putting the free lunch on for our residents and I am sure it will be very much appreciated by them.”

Alison and Gary Record helped to cook the Christmas meal on the day and said this would be the first of many events with the Weymouth Town Charities.

Alison said: “We took over The George about a year ago and the idea behind providing the Christmas meal came about.

“Residents from the Weymouth Town Charities really enjoyed their traditional three course Christmas meal.

“This year is our first year of running The George so we wanted to start it off with something worthwhile.

“We are going to work with the Weymouth Town Charities to do more events like this, because they do such a fantastic job.”
