COASTGUARDS were called after a fishing boat hit an object off Portland.
The incident happened near Church Ope Cover at around 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
The skipper of ‘Freya May’ dialed 999 when the boat hit a submerged object and then suffered engine failure.
Weymouth RNLI lifeboat towed the vessel back to Portland Harbour.
Elsewhere, coastguards investigated a report of a possible discarded distress flare in the surf near Bournemouth Pier.
The Emergency Ordnance Disposal team also attended and the item, which was identified as not being hazardous, was removed at around 9.30am.
