A COUPLE who became stuck while on a walk along the Dorset coast sparked alert for coastguards.

Shortly before 5pm yesterday, Portland Coastguard received a 999 call from the two walkers saying they had got into difficulty when walking between Chapman’s Pool and St Alban’s Head.

It is believed the particular route the couple had decided to take was closed off and overgrown, which they were not aware of when beginning their walk.

A spokesperson for Portland Coastguard said: “At 4.53pm we received a call from a couple in their 40s who had become stuck whilst walking between Chapman’s Pool and St Alban’s Head.

“The couple had followed a pathway on a map which was no longer accessible by foot and was all overgrown.”

St Albans Coast Rescue Team attended the scene and located the walkers.

The coastguard helicopter that was training nearby then lifted the two walkers to the coastguards on the cliff top.
