A FISH and chip shop has fed hundreds of people in the community this Christmas.

Alf’s Fish and Chip Shop in Weymouth donated 700 portions of sausage and chips to staff and children at Conifers Primary School and Beechcroft St Paul’s Primary School in Weymouth.

Both schools had Christmas parties on the same day, meaning that John and Karen Pearce started cooking at 4.30am. The youngsters showed their appreciation by sending in cards and wreaths and even a Christmas tree made out of ‘sausages’.

The shop also fed more than 100 pensioners from a locals’ collection pot with the extra funds donated by the shop.

Mr and Mrs Pearce donated fish and chips to pensioners at residential home Buxton House in Weymouth, to a pensioners’ lunch at Victory Hall in Chickerell and to pensioners at the Five Ways Centre.

The shop at Five Ways has raised hundreds of pounds for charity this year.

Mr Pearce said: “We couldn’t do all this without the support of the Echo and the locals who have donated money to a box on the counter.”
