TWO people were rescued from their cars and taken to hospital after a crash on an icy lane.

Drivers are warned of treacherous conditions on some rural roads which didn't get a chance to thaw out after temperatures plummeted overnight on Saturday.

Emergency services were alerted to an unclassified road off the A354 near Winterborne Whitechurch about 12.15pm today.

The crash was originally reported as being in Whatcombe Lane but crews found the crash at New Road, Bryanston, near Travellers Rest Farm.

On-call firefighters from Bere Regis and Blandford used hydraulic equipment to release occupants of the vehicles who were described as being 'medically trapped' as their suspected injuries prevented them from being moved easily.

Dorset Police said the vehicles involved were a Ford C-Max and a Vauxhall Corsa, both registered to keepers from outside of Dorset.

They were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to what is believed to be non-serious injuries.

A spokesman for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received reports of hazardous conditions in the area involving icy roads and advise motorists to take extra care when going out and about especially due to the changeable winter weather conditions.”
