DORSET residents are being reminded to check when their rubbish and recycling is being collected over the new year period as some collection days may change over the coming days.

In most areas, the Dorset Waste Partnership is carrying out catch-up collections a day or two later than normal and will accept a limited amount of additional rubbish and unlimited extra recycling.

Householders can check collection dates by entering their postcode at dorsetforyou.com/recycle Alternatively, they can call 01305 221040.

The festive season results in an estimated three million tonnes of waste and people are reminded to recycle all they can over the period – including wrapping paper (without foil), glass bottles and cardboard boxes – using your kerbside collection or local household recycling centre. If you have more recycling than will fit in your green box and bag after Christmas, extra recycling can be taken to your local mini or Household Recycling Centre, or put in an untied bag next to your green box. Paper should be kept separate from glass, cans and plastic bottles.
