A WOMAN was injured when her car left the road and demolished a wall on Portland.

Emergency services were alerted to Reforne late on Sunday night after a car ploughed into a section of wall surrounding the Portland Red Triangle Cricket Club ground.

The driver, thought to be a local woman, suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A passer-by came across the scene as the vehicle was being recovered.

He said: “The cricket club wall was smashed up including the piece where the Reforne road sign was. I hope the driver is okay. If they’re not badly hurt it will be a lucky escape.”

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene just before 10.30pm.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “We were called to a single vehicle road traffic collision at Reforne, Portland. The vehicle was a silver Citroën Xsara, registered to a woman from Portland.

“The car went into a wall. A woman was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester for treatment to a head injury. It is not thought to be life-threatening.”

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance said: “We attended with a rapid response vehicle and one ambulance.

“We admitted one patient with head injuries to the accident and emergency department.

“The local authority was made aware of a diesel spillage on the road.

“The emergency services left the scene at 3.20am.”

Staff at the nearby George Inn in Reforne said they didn’t hear the crash but noticed the flashing lights of the emergency services at the scene.

Portland Red Triangle Cricket Club secretary Grant Neven said the club would try to rebuild the wall and repair the damage.

He said the thoughts of all the club members were with the women taken to hospital, adding: “We wish her a speedy recovery.”
