THE moment a Weymouth craftsman’s world record attempt fell apart has been selected as one of 2013’s funniest moments.

Dave Evans was left picking up the pieces when the 40,000 piece jigsaw he built in his Brewers Quay workshop collapsed.

The dramatic moment was caught on camera and will be shown on ITV’s satirical show A Funny Old Year tonight at 11pm.

Millions of viewers will see the moment when Dave attempted to move the 40,000 piece puzzle, the largest hand-cut puzzle ever to be built, and it collapsed.

The mishap became a hit on YouTube with hundreds of thousands of views and was also mentioned on Have I Got News for You, Russell Howard’s Good News and the Lorraine Kelly show.

The puzzle featured photos of the Queen from her Diamond Jubilee year and had the honour of being displayed at Sandringham, the Queen’s holiday retreat.

It then went on to be auctioned in aid of Help for Heroes.

Dave said: “The programme will include the collapse of the jigsaw video in the show. So the story goes on. It’s quite exciting going out on national TV on New Year’s Eve.”
