A SUPER slimmer who has shed more than seven stone is ‘almost unrecognisable’ from last new year.

Martyn Sheward has lost 105lbs since he was told to slim down by doctors.

He featured in the Echo last year after shedding more than 50lbs – but has stuck to the healthy eating and more than doubled this loss in 2013.

The 59-year-old was referred to Weight Watchers for a 12-week programme and liked his new-found energy so much he kept going.

Mr Sheward, a Weymouth taxi driver, said: “It’s amazing the difference it has made to my life.

“Before, I would get up and I’d be out of breath just walking around the house.

“Now I keep moving. I’ve got so much extra bounce.”

Martyn, who weighed more than 19 stone before, said he used to struggle to get up in the morning but now finds ‘any excuse to walk everywhere’.

He is just a few pounds off his target weight and urged others who want to get healthy to go for it. He said: “The last stone has been a bit difficult.

“You go two or three weeks not losing anything but then suddenly you lose a bit.

“A big thing is the motivation – you have got to stay motivated.

“It took me a long time to get into it but once I stuck to it, I stayed focused.

“You’ve got to keep that focus.

“I’ve had the support of my wife, too, which has helped.

“She makes really nice healthy meals for us.”

Martyn attends the Weymouth meetings which are moving to Weymouth College from January.

He said: “I think it’s also helped that the class is so friendly.

“We all want each other to do well.”

Class leader Debbie Scammell, who shed five stone herself after running around after her young sons became a struggle, said: “The difference to Martyn is incredible.

“He’s almost unrecognisable.

“It just shows what you can do.”

She is celebrating after her classes lost a combined 341 stone this year.

In Dorchester, slimmers have shed a total of 93 stone.

Debbie added: “The level of weight loss has been outstanding.

“It’s even more fantastic when you consider that this is a small group.

“It’s nice when they lose the weight and look back to how they looked 10 months ago and see the difference.

“There are so many benefits to changing your lifestyle – we have one lady who is a Type 1 diabetic and reduced her insulin after just a few weeks.”
