COASTGUARDS were alerted to a woman in the water at Lyme Regis in the early hours of Friday morning.

At approximately 1.18am Portland coastguard received a 999 call reporting a woman in the water who was believed to be intoxicated.

Lyme Regis coastguard rescue officers together with Dorset Police and the South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene.

The woman was helped out of the water and taken home by her husband and passers by.

Later on in the day, Portland coastguard received a call from Dorset Police requesting help in locating a 78-year-old man suffering from dementia who was missing from his nursing home in Swanage.

Shortly after 8pm Portland coastguard sent the Swanage coastguard rescue team to the man’s home, with the intention to widen the search up onto the downs above Peveril Point.

After a short search, the man was located in an adjoining road nearby and returned to the home safely.

Dorset Boy says...

Wrong result for woman paddling in the sea at Lyme Regis. She should have been locked up for the night, then given the bill for the rescue services risking their lives to save her.
