COASTGUARDS recovered a buoy life ring from Chesil Cove last night.

The Perry buoy life ring was originally believed to be a liferaft, which was spotted by a member of the public just before high tide on Monday night.

It belonged a commercial vessel that was bound for Turkey.

Elsewhere, the Portland Coastguard Rescue Helicoper was scrambled after a 999 call from a concerned member of the public who saw a walker climb over a wall onto rocks at Sandbanks and fail to return.

At the time of the call yesterday lunchtime, the sea was extremely rough and breaking over the rocks.

The area was thoroughly searched by the helicopter crew, the Poole RNLI lifeboats, Poole Coastguard Rescue Officers and Poole Harbour Pilot Boat.

Nothing was found.
