Dorset Echo: Gang of youths attack man in Weymouth Gang of youths attack man in Weymouth

POLICE are hunting four youths who attacked and tried to rob a man in Littlemoor.

At approximately 12.30am on Sunday January 5 a 47-year-old local man was walking in the area of Beverley Road when a group of four young men approached him.

One of the men in the group demanded money and a mobile phone before attacking the victim who resisted and managed to escape his assailants.

Detective Constable Nick Lavery, of Weymouth CID, said: “This was a nasty attack on a man while he was walking alone.

“I urge anyone who witnessed this attempted robbery and anyone with information about men matching the description to call Dorset Police in confidence as soon as possible.”

No arrests have been made.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 05:140. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

We must be able to walk all our roads without fear that includes this road. We pay the police to do a job lets make sure we get the results we need here.

Smilealoft - I'd argue whether we *do* pay the police to "do a job" anymore. Dorset Police are the lowest-funded force in the country and still they are being cut. So long as we've got a government that won't be happy til their G4S mates are patrolling our streets, I'm afraid crime is only going to get worse.

Spot on Seb. I was being a bit tounge in cheek when i wrote that, the police have had there money cut year on year and this goverment will not stop cutting. UKIP will spend money on police services and hopefully we will regain the streets. As for G4S i would not even give them a sniff. LOWER WAGES FOR STAFF AND CRAP CONDITIONS.

His attacker "may be suffering a facial injury". Fair play to the man. I hope the lack of detail disguises the fact that he gave him a good hiding. Good job the lad wants on his own I would have thought. The lemon

It is unfortunate that this has happened in Littlemoor because this is not a reflection of Littlemoor as a whole. Just like anywhere else littlemoor has a few bad apples however the majority of residents are hard working law abiding people. I would like to point out that Littlemoor is officially a village not an estate, the majority of houses are also privately owned and the majority or people choose to live here. This is evident when you see the number of SOLD boards in front gardens. Reverting back to the story, although shocking this sadly is not unique to Littlemoor and is unfortunately a growing trend throughout the country. I just hope these cowardly thugs are caught soon.

The reason for the sold boards is people having the common sense to get out of the rat-trap!
