DORSET Police charged 65 people with drink driving between December 1 and New Year's Day as part of its festive campaign.

The Dorset Echo teamed up with Dorset Police to name and shame those charged and found guilty with drink driving offences over Christmas and the New Year.

The following are the latest to be dealt with by Weymouth Magistrates' Court.

DIANE CATHERINE ASPLEN

A WOMAN who was more than three times the drink drive limit smashed into another car while travelling home.

Diane Catherine Asplen, aged 44, of Down Wood Road, Blandford,was discovered by police at 5.40pm on December 28 in The Close, Blandford.

She had smashed into a stationary Renault Scenic and when police arrived was still in the driver's seat, Weymouth Magistrates Court heard.

She gave a reading of 116 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Asplen pleaded guilty to drink driving.

Magistrates banned Asplen from driving for 28 months, with a 213 day reduction upon completing a drink driving awareness course.

She was fined £415, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £42.

JAMIE MARK TOATES

A CAR on the wrong side of a roundabout was being driven by intoxicated Jamie Mark Toates, Weymouth Magistrates Court heard.

Prosecutor Lee Turner said Toates, of Haye Lane, Lyme Regis was driving his Renault Clio on the wrong side of Clappentail roundabout in Lyme Regis at 11.40pm on December 27.

26-year-old Toates, who pleaded guilty to drink driving, gave a reading of 66 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

Defending, Max Owen said that Toates had only had one can of beer before going out to the pub, and when leaving the venue still believed he was under the limit.

Toates was pulled over by police just as he reached his home.

He was banned from driving for 18 months, to be reduced by 134 days upon completion of a drink drivers' course.

Toates was fined £150, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £20.

JOSHUA ANDREW THOMAS CROSS

A MAN admitted drink driving after purchasing a new car the same day, a court heard.

Joshua Andrew Thomas Cross, aged 23, of Radipole Lane, Weymouth, was banned from driving for 12 months by Weymouth Magistrates.

The court heard police stopped Cross on December 27 shortly before 11pm, after he was seen travelling at 76mph in a Jaguar XJ on Portland Beach Road and noting his speed with a speed gun.

He gave a breath reading of 56 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Cross pleaded guilty to drink driving, another charge of driving without third party insurance and also exceeding the 60mph speed limit.

Cross was banned from driving for 12 months, to be reduced by 91 days upon completion of a drink drivers' course.

He was fined £165, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

He was also fined £165 for driving without insurance, £50 for speeding and his license was endorsed.

SILVERE AUTIER

A West Dorset man has been 'named and shamed' by the Dorset Police drink drive campaign.

Silvere Autier, aged 32, of East Road, Bridport, was pulled over by police in St Andrews Road, Bridport on December 21 at around 2.25am.

He pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle when above the alcohol limit, gave a reading of 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

District judge Stephen Nicholls banned Autier from driving for 17 months, with a reduction offered upon completing a drink driving awareness course.

He was fined £300, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.

JAMIE ANDREW DANORIS

Jamie Andrew Danoris, aged 20, of Rivers Mead, Sturminster Newton, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Fiesta when above the alcohol limit, driving the same vehicle without a licence and also without third party insurance.

The court heard how on December 22 at around 1.50am Danoris was pulled over by police in Shaftesbury.

He gave a reading of 65 microgrammes of alcohol in 100millitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

District Judge Stephen Nicholls ordered Danoris to pay at £150 fine, £50 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

He was disqualified from driving for 17 months.

JAMES DANIEL YARNOLD

A CAR which swerved off the road was being driven by intoxicated James Daniel Yarnold, a court heard.

The 35-year-old, who is currently living in Essex, gave a reading of 79 microgrammes of alcohol in 100millitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

District Judge Stephen Nicholls fined Yarnold £350, ordered him to pay £85 costs and disqualified from driving for 16 months, with a reduction offered upon completing a drink driving awareness course.

SUSAN MARSLAND

A WOMAN found by police alone in a vehicle on a North Dorset road admitted refusing to take a breath test, a court heard.

Susan Marsland, 48, of Prospect Vale in Wallasey, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis on December 21.

Police officers were alerted to a motor vehicle being driven in an 'erratic manner.

A positive breath test was carried out and she was taken to the police station before Marsland refused a second test and was later taken into custody in Weymouth Prosecutor Elizabeth Valera reminded the court that there was no positive identification of Marsland driving the vehicle.

District Judge Stephen Nicholls sentenced Marsland on the basis that she was in control of the vehicle.

She was fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 costs and given 10 penalty points on her licence.
