This week’s update unsurprisingly is dominated by weather related incidents.

We have been working hard with other agencies to try and ensure that roads and properties are kept safe.

Unfortunately there have been times when we have had to close roads and some properties have been flooded.

I think we are fortunate to some extent that the town is surrounded by a natural flood plain – that has helped out considerably.

I realise that road closures can cause inconvenience but they are put in place for sound reasons.

Generally if you see a flood warning sign next to a road it is an advisory sign warning you that surface water is on the road and you should proceed with caution.

A road closed sign however is a directive, indicating that you should not continue.

I hope that the worst is over but should flooding return please take note of the signage and drive responsibly.

If you are at all unsure of the depth of surface water do not proceed into it.

Also please be aware that if you pass through surface water next to residential properties your wake will push water towards them.

We have had some instances this week of drivers ignoring road closed signs and causing further damage to pavements and threatening properties. We have had a few further shed breaks in the Fordington area this week and this continues to be of concern.

Good locks and shed alarms in particular are cheap and are good prevention tactics.

Marking power tools to such an extent that their ownership is obvious makes them less attractive to thieves.

Tools and diesel are also being taken from vehicles overnight, mainly in the north of the town.

Shed breaks are currently our local priority and we welcome any information that might help.

Our team will be at the library each Thursday morning should you wish to pop in and speak to them.
