Officers in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses after two assaults in the Melcombe Regis area of the town.

The incidents happened at approximately 10.55pm on Wednesday January 8 at the bus stop outside The Rock & Fudge Shop along The Esplanade.

One of the victims, an 18-year-old local man, was waiting at the bus stop when he was approached by another man and punched in the face causing a cut to his eye.

Police Constable Jamie Heath, of Weymouth police, said: “I believe the offender had already assaulted a man on a bicycle just before this incident.

"It would appear that this man was taking out his frustration and anger on two innocent members of the public, which has resulted in visible injuries and a degree of shock.”

The offender has been described as about six feet five inches tall and of chubby build. He was wearing a grey top.

PC Heath continued: “A number of people were at the bus station and would have witnessed what happened. I urge them and anyone with information to call Dorset Police in confidence as soon as possible.

“I am also interested to hear from the man who was assaulted on the pushbike.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 09:256. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
