BANISH evil spirits and take part in a wonderful traditional seasonal celebration this weekend as two community orchards hold their annual wassail.

Transition Town Dorchester will be meeting at the Railway Orchard at the Baker’s Arms end of Monmouth Road, down a little alley between the road and the railway, at 11am tomorrow.

All are invited to come along, banish a few evil spirits and ensure good fruit for this year, or just have a sing and some fun with cider, apple juice and apple cake.

The party will then move on to the community orchard at Poundbury at about 12.30pm, ending up at the community farm for lunch and more wassailing at around 1pm. For more information email orchard@transitiontowndorchester.org A second annual wassailing event takes place in the Bridport Community Orchard in Priory Lane on Sunday at 3pm. The Wyld Morris Dancers will dance and lead the music and singing, with song sheets provided.

You can also enjoy hot apple juice and cider around the fire and all are welcome to join in, bringing noisy instruments, drums, tin lids, etc to scare the bad spirits away.
