A WEYMOUTH man’s body lay undiscovered for weeks, an inquest heard.

Police were alerted to Trevor John Wilson’s flat in Old Parish Lane after neighbours spotted flies at the window last July.

Upon arrival, officers found the decomposed body of the 61 year-old laying on the floor, coroner for Dorset Sheriff Payne said.

Statements told how Mr Wilson had been an alcoholic for ‘many years’ and did not have any regular visitors.

Mr Payne said that because of the state of Mr Wilson’s body, a post mortem could not say when he died.

It was estimated that his body had lain undiscovered for ‘some weeks’ and because of this a cause of death could not be ascertained, Mr Payne said.

Recording an open verdict, the coroner added: “It may well be that he had taken an overdose or consumed excessive alcohol and that may have had a poisoning effect on him and caused his death.”
