A WINDSURFER was rescued after getting into difficulty in Portland Harbour.

A concerned member of the public called Portland Coastguard after seeing the windsurfer struggling.

The inshore lifeboat from Weymouth was launched and Wyke Coastguards were scrambled to help the windsurfer ashore.

Elsewhere yesterday, the Portland Coastguard helicopter airlifted a climber to safety who got stuck on a Purbeck cliff.

The climber, a man in his 40s, was unable to ascend the ‘Subliminal’ climb at Anvil Point near Swanage due to the wet conditions of the rocks. He was secured until help arrived.

Coastguard Cliff Rescue officers were sent along witht the helicopter, which winched him to he top.

Both he and his climbing partner, who had raised the alarm, were said to be wet and cold but otherwise fine.
