YOUNGSTERS in Dorchester will be able to get creative with street art at an event this weekend.

County town artist Peter Sheridan will help launch the ‘good graffiti’ project under the railway bridge along Damers Road in the county town on Saturday.

He will be there from 10am to 4pm as part of a scheme aimed to reduce vandalism and unsightly graffiti by channelling the talents and energy of those who want to do street art into something positive.

Similar schemes have already been set up in Sherborne and Bridport by West Dorset District Council Gillian Summers after she began the project in November last year.

The walls display the projects logo so people wanting to produce street art can do so in an acceptable environment.

Councillor Summers said: “I’m really pleased Network Rail has encouraged our project and provided a wall in Dorchester for people to showcase their talents on.

“The project has been going really well so far and it has been really great to see the effort that has already been put into the designs in Bridport and Sherborne.”

Project updates are available on Twitter by following @goodgraffitiWD and on Facebook at facebook.com/goodgraffiti.

The competition will finish in April, with an award ceremony and prizes given for the best pieces of work.
