THE complainant in the case of a man accused of an attack on Weymouth seafront has denied suggestions he was in fact the aggressor.

Gary Jones, 43, is on trial at Dorchester Crown Court facing a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The defendant, of Bayard Road, Weymouth, denies the offence relating to an incident on the night of December 22, 2012.

He is accused of biting the thumb of suspected love rival Jonathan Storey on The Esplanade after throwing him to the floor.

During cross examination Tim Shorter, representing Jones, put it to Mr Storey that in fact he had been the aggressor on the night.

He suggested that the pair had then tussled on the floor and Mr Storey had put his hands on Jones’ face and mouth and it was then he was bitten.

Mr Shorter told the witness: “You were the one who was aggressive, you were the one who punched, you were the one who forced Mr Jones to the ground and you were the one who had his hands over his mouth and face.”

Mr Storey replied: “Absolutely not, it’s not true. Mr Jones took hold of my hand, put it in his mouth and bit my thumb as hard as he could.”

The trial continues.
