PERFORMERS are hoping to sing, dance or even juggle their way to the final of a new talent competition.

Weymouth auditions for Dorset’s Got Talent take place this Saturday at Weymouth College Theatre giving local people a chance to shine.

Dorset’s Got Talent is a new search for a local star organised by and supporting Weldmar Hospicecare Trust.

The charity is looking for dancers, singers, musicians, acrobats and magicians – in fact anyone of any age with something to show off – to take part.

The winner will receive £500 cash, donated by the Hive Beach Café, and a family holiday at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, Burton Bradstock, where the final will take place on Saturday, March 15.

Talent scouts will be attending the final and it is hoped to have some well-known people joining the judging panel.

Auditions are being held around Dorset over the next few weeks and those interested should register with Weldmar.

People who haven’t registered to take part at the Weymouth event should not fret as they can go along to an open audition on the day from 1pm.

Performers who impress the judges will be invited back on Saturday evening for the first of the semi-final events.

The audience at the semi-finals will vote for their favourite act and the one with the most votes will go through.

Judges will decide out of the next top two acts who will join them.

Event and challenges fundraiser for Weldmar Matt Smith said: “The response has been really good and we have a mixed bag of talented people ready to impress the judges.

“People who have registered for the Weymouth audition will be performing from 10am but we have an open audition from 1pm for those who haven’t had time to register so come along if you’ve got a talent to show off.

“We’re really pleased with the response so far.

“It’s raising money for Weldmar and at the same time helping to build the confidence of performers and give them a chance of winning £500.”

After the Weymouth audition the next one is at Charlton Down village hall on Saturday, February 8 for people from the Dorchester area.
