A WOMAN caught speeding told officers she had asked police to target speeding motorists in her town.
She was among numerous motorists caught still flouting the law during two targeted ‘Surround a Town’ operations in Dorset.
Another included the supervisor of a learner driver who was using his mobile phone while instructing.
The woman, from Blandford, knew about ‘no excuse’ and had requested for the team to visit the area.
Enforcement officers carried out patrols in Blandford, Gillingham and Shaftesbury, Blandford, Pimperne and Gillingham to remind motorists of the importance of road safety.
The two days of action were part of the ‘no excuse’ project to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured on Dorset’s roads.
Of the 74 motoring offences detected, 43 were for speeding. Motorists exceeding the education disposal thresholds can have a court hearing or a £100 fine and three penalty points.
A total of 14 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued to drivers or passengers for not wearing a seatbelt Officers also handed tickets to 14 motorists who were caught driving while using a hand-held mobile phone.
Brian Austin, ‘no excuse’ project manager, said: “It is disappointing that drivers are still breaking the law. Speeding and driving while using a mobile phone are the main factors in fatal and serious injury collisions in Dorset. There is no excuse – simply do not do it. If you do, you will get caught.”
