On Saturday March 1 Westham Community Group are staging the first Heart of Westham (HoW) community open day supported by the Working with You project being managed by the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. The Group hope that as many people as possible will turn up as it will be free of charge and will be held at the Weymouth Community Safety Centre (Fire Station) between 11.00am and 1.00pm. There will be entertainment for younger residents including a bouncy castle and possibly some face painting and an opportunity to have a look around Firewise and see what happens when a house catches on fire and learn what to do about it. Everyone who attends will be entered in a free draw for some worthwhile prizes supported by local companies.

The purpose of the event is to publicise all that is available for Westham residents, young or old, mostly in Westham itself but elsewhere in Weymouth in some cases and try and remove the idea that there is “nothing to do” in the area. This includes as wide a range of activities as possible and there should be plenty on offer which might be of interest for residents of all ages. Organisations that put on activities in the local halls and community buildings will be there with information about what they offer. Some organisations that are looking for volunteers to help them in a variety of ways will also be taking part. Charities, scouts and guides, lunch clubs, art and music groups, fitness groups, churches should all be present.

Just drop in for an hour and surprise yourselves about just what is going on in and around Westham, Lanehouse and Southill, and what you could join in with, either as a participant or as a volunteer helper.

Coffee, teas and soft drinks will also be available.
