THE Seagulls are preparing to swoop for non-contract midfielder George Rigg.

Skrill South outfit Weston-super Mare have made an enquiry for the 20-year-old but the Terras remain hopeful he will stay.

Weymouth boss Jason Matthews told Echosport: “George is happy here but it’s a chance of playing a league up and he is ambitious.

“It’s something we will look at and I know George is an honest lad and will keep me informed.

“He is someone I would really like to keep hold of, as he has been a great addition, but we will just have to wait and see.”

The Terras are set to travel to in-form St Albans City in the Southern Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

The fourth-placed Saints are unbeaten in their last seven games in which they have racked up 17 points and scored 21 goals.

Clarence Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Matthews in the past but he has full faith in his team that they can go there and get a result.

He added: “The pitch at St Albans slopes but it isn’t too bad.

“They do not have too many games called off there, so fingers crossed it will go ahead, and we can go there and put in another big performance.

“I haven’t had a lot of luck there in the past so hopefully we can change that.”

The Terras put up a spirited display on Tuesday night to see off Bideford and their player-manager is hoping for more of the same.

He said: “The last few weeks have been one of the worst spells of weather I can remember during a season.

“It feels like the wind and rain comes in every time we have a game and it looks like this weekend is going to be no different.

“It’s going to be another battle but if we can show the same spirit as we did on Tuesday, we will stand every chance of getting something.”

Michael Walker and Jake Green are both available for the Terras tomorrow, despite receiving red cards against Stourbridge and Bideford respectively, but Carl McClements remains a doubt.

Michael Walker’s one-game ban will see him miss the home clash against Banbury on February 15 while Green’s three-game suspension will rule him out of the trips to Truro (February 18), Bedford (February 22) and Cambridge City (February 26).

*A crowd of just 261 braved the atrocious weather on Tuesday night to see Weymouth beat Bideford 3-2 at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

According to club historian Nigel Biddlecombe, that gate is the fourth lowest recorded home attendance for a senior league fixture in the club’s history, and the lowest since Swindon Town Reserves visited in the Western League back on May 4, 1927.
