TWO police officers were caught on camera getting a soaking as they photographed the storms on Portland.

The two were on routine patrol when they joined bystanders to get a close-up look at the huge waves at Chesil Cove.

They had to run for cover when a giant wave crashed over the wall.

Watch the to end of this video to see the officers get soaked by a wave at Chiswell.

Dorset Police had earlier warned the public to stay well away from the coast during the stormy weather.

A Dorset Police spokesman said : 'The officers were engaged in a routine patrol in Portland and parked at a vantage point that had been used by the emergency services throughout the day.

'The clip shows that even areas considered to be safe during extreme weather conditions can be adversely affected by the elements.

'Our message to the public has not changed and we would urge people to take particular care in coastal or flooded areas and not to place themselves in danger.'
