AN inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a teenager who fell into Weymouth Harbour.
Christopher John Alan Vaughan, aged 18, died at Dorset County Hospital in the early hours of January 9.
Speaking at Bournemouth Coroner’s Court this morning, coroner’s officer Alan Young said: “Mr Vaughan had been out walking with his girlfriend Tara Neels on January 9 this year.
“She went home, but later went out to look for him after he failed to return. He was found splashing in the water in Weymouth Harbour.
“He was taken to Dorset County Hospital where he later died.”
Consultant pathologist Dr Mark Deverill identified the body on January 10 and recorded the cause of death as “the consequences of immersion in cold water”.
The inquest was adjourned to a later date which has not been specified.
Chris, who was born in Cardiff and grew up in Kidderminster, was described as a 'genuis' by his mum who paid tribute to her son.
Messages were also left by the harbourside in memory of the popular teenager.
