Summary

  • The meeting is at 7pm at All Saints Church at Easton – the same venue for a public meeting about the precept last month which saw angry scenes and calls for councillors to resign over the controversial decision
  • Tonight’s meeting was due to take place last Wednesday but had to be postponed due to the island being battered by severe weather
  • It is expected that all previous decisions about the budget and precept will be rescinded this evening and councillors will set a new precept
  • Proposals on the table are for an increase of 2 per cent or an increase of 42 per cent
  • A petition containing more than 3,000 names urging councillors to set a ‘fair’ precept will also be handed over at the meeting
  • Join the debate by send your comments via Twitter by using the hashtag #portlandtax

Right, now can I propose a vote of no confidence in Portland's WPBC councillors who seem so ineffectual in standing up for our interests.

What a farce, never seen so many useless Councillors in all my life. You couldn't write a script to match the debacle on show tonight. How can proposer and seconder of raising the precept to 42.6% vote in favour of the rise then rescind it at the next proposal. Time the local government ombudsman investigated this inept bunch of so called local Councillors

Glad to see the immense public support for the vote of no confidence in the council and cannot believe that the Mayor will take it to the next meeting to get the councillors to vote on it!!!

Sorry but I saw that last comments on his thread censored by the echo about the Munro's, it is clear they are censoring comments that criticise or question the councillors who run away, but spend money with this paper.

How many other misdeeds and corruptions has this paper covered up for those in local authority or business who give them money?
