THE proud grandfather of Max Price is hoping to ease the financial strain on his family following the Weymouth youngster’s second kidney transplant.

The six-year-old was given the gift of life by his father Shaun who donated a kidney to his son in October.

Despite both operations going well, Max contracted a bug and sadly had to spend Christmas, New Year and his sixth birthday in hospital.

Grandfather Paul Allington says the past few months, which included numerous trips to hospital in Southampton and London, was a huge financial strain on his family.

He is now inviting people to attend a fundraising night at the Portland Conservative Club which will include live music, a raffle and a disco on Saturday, April 5.

He said: “Max’s journey has had a great financial impact on my family and I want to host this event for the Max Price Trust.

“He has been in hospital for the past ten weeks which has been really tough, especially over Christmas and his birthday.

“This has been really expensive for Max’s parents who have been taking him to Southampton and London for hospital visits.”

It was little Max’s second kidney transplant after his first donor organ failed and had to be removed in January 2012.

The Weymouth youngster, who was born with chronic renal failure, and his selfless dad Shaun went into theatre in October.

Doctors told Max’s family that there was a high chance of success and that after recovery Max would be able to lead a normal life.

Although the kidney is not a perfect match, his mum Michelle said it was going well so far.

Entertainment on the night will include live music by Hustle and the Steve Williams Roadshow.

Mr Allington added: “Max is now at home and he always has a smile on his face.”

The Dorset Kidney Fund has also helped Max’s family out over the years with grants.
