POLICE have renewed a witness appeal after a man and his dog were attacked by another dog in Weymouth.

As reported in the Echo last week, the attack took place on the beach during the evening of Tuesday, February 11.

A dog was left badly injured and its owner suffered a hand injury.

Sergeant Scott McFarland of Weymouth police said: “The dog was being walked along the beach off the lead when it was attacked by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The offending dog latched itself on to its throat and had to be pulled away by the victim’s owner and a passer-by. Both the man and his dog had to receive medical treatment.

“This incident has caused a great deal of distress and left the owner very shocked.

“I am particularly keen to speak to two women, who also had two or three other dogs with them, who were seen with the Staffordshire Bull Terrier at the time. I urge them to come forward to help us ascertain exactly what happened.

“I would like to speak the owner of the offending dog and to any witnesses or anyone with information as soon as possible.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 11:421.
