THE First Dorset Credit Union is welcoming people to its new head office in Dorchester as it holds an open day on Wednesday.

The offices at 40 High East Street will be open from noon to 4pm.

The First Dorset Credit Union is holding the event after agreeing a long lease from Magna Housing Association for the ground floor of the property where the offices are situated.

It wants to show people the customised interior that will make it an efficient nerve centre for the Credit Union.

The organisation also wants to publicly demonstrate its gratitude to Magna for its support over a number of years by providing space for its service point and paying for utilities to run it.

First Dorset Credit Union president Rosemary Britten said: “Without Magna’s support, I don’t know how we would have been able to operate in recent years, let alone expand our services to all parts of Dorset.”

The Credit Union also wants to show people how the enormous effort by its volunteers has created ‘a financial institution for all sectors of the community’ and also expressed its thanks to the Dorset Echo for its support since the organisation began in 1999.

The open day will be followed by the Credit Union’s annual general meeting for all members in the West Dorset District Council offices at South Walks House from 6pm.
