AN 87-YEAR-OLD driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash which has closed a road in North Dorset.

The collision happened on the A350 north of Fontmell Magna at around 12.20pm and involved a DAF lorry and a Jaguar XF.

Ambulance crews called for Dorset Fire and Rescue to help free the Jaguar driver from the car.

The man, from Wareham, suffered serious injuries and has been taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

The A350 remains closed between Drones Lane the A30 Christy’s Lane/B3091 Salisbury Road and is expected to be shut into the afternoon rush hour.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles shortly before it to contact them.

PC Viv Bedford has asked witnesses to ring 101 and quote incident 19:185.

The HGV belongs to the Gloucester-based national company Downton Delivery.

Group compliance manager Stuart Brooks said the lorry driver was unhurt and would be taken back to the company's depot in Bristol.

"He's obviously distressed by it," said Mr Brooks.

"He's okay and I've had several conversations with him on his phone. We just hope the Jaguar driver is okay."
