A YOUNG Weymouth woman reported missing in India has been in contact with her family.

Matilda Vine, aged 24, was last heard from 10 days ago when she was in Hampi, Karnataka State.

The Foreign Office launched enquiries to find the youth worker and her travel companion Tim Hodgson.

But this afternoon Matilda has been in touch with her family to say she is safe and well- and said 'sporadic internet' was to blame for her apparent disappearance.

Dad Mark Vine said hearing from his daughter was 'the best feeling in the world.'

He thanked everybody who had been involved in the search and those who had shared Matilda's details on the internet.

I don't know you, but can understand your anguish. So glad everything turned out fine.

In other news, said Tilda is a silly hippie and will receive a veritable swimming pool of quizzical eyebrows and mild frowns from her friends upon returning to the UK.

She is 24 years old for heavens sake not 14.
What happened before this instant communication from anywhere in the world age in which we now live was " Bye mum & dad I'm off globetrotting for a year, see you when I get back".

Wrinklyrod... This is Matilda Vines sister.
The negative to living in an age of easy communication is when you don't recieve contact for 10 days+ it is UNUSUAL and should be treated as SERIOUS. Matilda was staying in a small town called Hampi the last we heard and we were informed by a friend that her fiancee was kidknapped and held at gunpoint for 2 weeks in that very same town a few years before. So before you disregard the seriosuness of the situation and my familys absolute agonizing panic perhaps you should look into the facts a little more rather than a brief summary of events published on one site.

Under35andout ... My daughter did not know the people who were kidnapped there as it was ten years ago. Might I suggest that you keep your dumb comments to yourself until you know what it's like to worry about a child abroad.
She is nothing to do with you, so unless you want to discuss this further, face to face, butt out !
