A CITIZENS Advice Bureau project supporting people with mental health problems needs funding to continue its vital work.
The Dorchester, Sherborne and District CAB has been running the project since March 2011 and manager Daniel Cadisch says it has delivered real benefits to people with mental health problems.
However, more funding is needed so it can continue to offer appointments.
The project has been based at the CAB’s Sherborne office and also operates through Bute House Surgery in the town.
Advisor Steve Pratt sees around 100 people a year who are referred from GPs or the community mental health team. He said: “Demand for the Mental Health Outreach Project is growing all the time. Benefits problems form the biggest issue – people don’t know what they are entitled to and it is harder for people with mental illness to deal with the whole process. This project has been so successful that we are incredibly keen to continue it but we can only do that with more money to support it year on year.”
