THE photo of the 13th Weymouth Guides in Looking Back on February 11 brought in a lovely response.

First of all, Margaret Ayles and Ann Hardy wrote in with as many of the names of the girls as they could remember and then Nancy Hitchin called us and sent in an amazing photograph from 1924 of a pack of Rosebuds.

Rosebuds was the early name for the Brownies and this pack was based at St Aldhelm’s Church in Branksome.

The uniform was cream dresses with brown collars and ties and they look much more formal than the uniform of hoodies and cargo trousers that many Brownies wear today.

Margaret and Ann think that the gathering of Guides was a party for past and present members of the company. They have forgotten some of the names but remembered many too, so here they are: Back from left: Two unknowns and then Barbara Francis, Thelma Blatchford, Beryl someone, Una Cox, unknown, Anne Fullard, Kathleen someone, unknown, unknown, Freda Legg, Rosemary someone, Sylvia Lees, Mureen Street, Pamela Page, Daisy Sibley, unknown, Joan Legg.

Upper middle row: Pauline Hawkins, Molly someone, unknown, Ann Hardy, Annette Green, unknown, Margaret Way, Gillian Waite, Caroline Newbold, seven unknowns.

Lower middle row: Mary Evans, unknown, Georgina Legg, Tessa Moggeridge, trainee Guider Rosemary Beaglehole, Captain Joan Bartlett, Lieutenant Audrey Blatchford, Jennifer Dare, Sylvia Powell, Angela Spring, Janet Wellman, District Commissioner Mrs Morris.

Front row: Maureen someone, Sandra Wellman, two unknowns, Jeanette someone, two more unknowns, Pat someone, unknown.

If anyone out there can fill in the rest of the names or wants to share their memories of guides please do get in touch.
